Getting Started

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me? +

It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. That's exactly why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation—no pressure, just a chance to get your questions answered and see if we might be a good fit.

During this call, you can ask about my approach, share what you're going through, and get a feel for whether therapy feels right for you at this time.

How do I schedule a free consultation? +

You can schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation by:

I'll get back to you within two business days to coordinate a time that works for you.

What can I expect in my first session? +

The first session (intake) is typically 75-90 minutes and focuses on getting to know each other. We'll discuss:

  • What brought you to therapy and your goals
  • Your background and current life situation
  • Any immediate concerns or questions you have
  • How we might work together moving forward

There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with, and we'll move at a pace that feels right for you.

Are intake sessions longer than regular sessions? +

Yes, the initial intake usually lasts about 75–90 minutes, compared to the typical 45–50 minute follow-up sessions. This extra time allows us to review your background, discuss your goals, and ensure we're setting a solid foundation for our work together.

All subsequent sessions will return to the standard session length.

Services & Approach

What issues do you help with? +

I work with adults facing a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Substance use & stuck patterns — alcohol, drugs, and compulsive behaviors
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions and identity issues
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Moral injury and spiritual concerns

I have specialized experience working with veterans and first responders.

Do you work with substance use and addiction? +

Yes — and this is an area of particular focus. I work with people struggling with alcohol, drugs, and a wide range of compulsive behaviors, including things that might not look like "addiction" from the outside: overworking, compulsive scrolling, disordered eating, gambling, and more.

My approach starts from the premise that these patterns are almost never about weakness or lack of willpower. They're usually your brain's best attempt at managing pain, anxiety, or overwhelming emotion — coping strategies that made sense at some point and got stuck. Therapy gets curious about what they're protecting you from, rather than just focusing on stopping the behavior.

This work doesn't require you to have hit rock bottom or be ready to commit to total abstinence from day one. If you feel stuck in a pattern and want to understand it better, that's enough to start. Learn more about this approach →

What is your therapeutic approach? +

My approach integrates several evidence-based methods:

  • Experiential therapy - Moving beyond just talking to actually experiencing new ways of being
  • Mindfulness-based approaches - Developing present-moment awareness and acceptance
  • Relational therapy - Understanding how relationships shape your experience
  • Trauma-informed care - All treatment considers how past experiences impact present functioning

Above all, I believe therapy should be collaborative, culturally responsive, and focused on your unique goals and values.

Telehealth Services

Do you offer telehealth? +

Yes—all sessions are offered exclusively via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth. I do not see clients face-to-face in a physical office.

You can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space if you are located in Florida or any PSYPACT-participating state.

What is PSYPACT? +

PSYPACT (Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact) is an agreement that allows licensed psychologists to provide telehealth services across participating states.

If you live in one of the 40 PSYPACT states, you are eligible to work with me online, even if you are not located in Florida. This includes states like Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Virginia, and many others.

What platform do you use for telehealth? +

I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Through it, you can:

  • Schedule and manage appointments
  • Complete intake forms and assessments
  • Send secure messages
  • Join video sessions
  • Access treatment resources

All of your paperwork, scheduling, and secure messaging stay in one convenient, private place.

Insurance & Payment

Do you take insurance? +

Florida clients: Yes — I now accept Aetna insurance for clients based in Florida. Your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan, deductible, and copay. I'd recommend contacting Aetna before your first session to confirm your mental health benefits.

All other states: Sessions are private pay. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt with all the codes your insurer needs — that you can submit for possible reimbursement. I also work with Thrizer, which can handle the out-of-network claims process for you so you only pay your estimated share upfront rather than the full fee.

Why private pay for non-Florida clients? +

For clients outside of Florida, private pay keeps our work free from insurance oversight — no prior authorizations, no session limits, and no third party involved in your care. It also means I don't need to assign a billable diagnosis from session one, which lets us focus on what you actually need rather than fitting your experience into a predetermined category.

That said, many private-pay clients do receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits, and Thrizer can make that process straightforward. See the Pricing page for details.

What are your session fees? +

Initial Intake Session: $250 (75-90 minutes)

Standard Session: $205 (45-50 minutes)

Payment is due at the time of service and can be made securely online.

Practical Questions

How often will we meet? +

Most clients start with weekly sessions, though the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and preferences. Some people benefit from more frequent sessions initially, while others prefer every other week.

We'll discuss what feels right for you and can always adjust as we go.

How long does therapy typically take? +

The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your goals, the issues you're working on, and your personal preferences. Some people find what they need in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work.

We'll regularly check in about your progress and discuss what feels right for you at any given time.

What's your cancellation policy? +

I require 24 hours notice for cancellations. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice or no-shows will be charged the full session fee.

I understand that emergencies happen, and I'm always willing to discuss individual circumstances.

How quickly do you respond to messages? +

I respond to non-urgent messages within 2 business days. For urgent situations between sessions, please call my office line or, if it's an emergency, contact your local emergency services or crisis hotline.

The platform allows for secure messaging between sessions for non-urgent matters.
